Hoover, Herbert

Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States, holding the office from 1929 to 1933.  Hoover's Presidency has been defined by the stock market crash in October 1929.  After he lost the 1932 Presidential election to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Hoover returned to his home in Palo Alto, California.  During a March, 1934 trip from Palo Alto to Chicago, Hoover spent a night at Chandler's San Marcos Hotel.  His March 23 overnight stay attracted the attention of the local paper, which noted all the dignitaries who came to visit Hoover in the San Marcos, and documented every moment of his visit.  The Chandler Arizonan reported that former President Hoover stayed in the Owen D. Young Bungalow on the hotel grounds and that he quite enjoyed the lushly landscaped grounds of the San Marcos.
