He is listed  in the 1917 Chandler directory as a butcher. The 1918 and 1919 Chandler City Directories list him as a meatcutter at Delmer Williams Grocery. The 1920 directory said he worked at a restaurant on Boston Street.

The 1921 directory said he worked at a restaurant on south Arizona Ave. and lived on Boston St.

The 1923 directory said he worked at a restaurant (probably Boston Cafe) on west Boston at the southwest corner of Oregon and lived at the same place with his wife Grace M.

The 1925 directory said he was an owner of Boston Cafe.

The 1926 directory lists him as an owner of the Road Runner Cafe on the southwest corner of west Boston and Oregon.

The 1929 directory said Grace M. Ellis was a widow of H. G.
