Fairchild, David

David Fairchild traveled around the globe in search of crops which could be grown in the newly irrigated lands of the Western United States.  Among the crops he introduced to the Western U. S. were avocado, dates, grapefruit, cucumbers, onions, seedless grapes, chickpeas, and long staple cotton from Egypt.  He published a book about his travels entitled "The World Was my Garden."
