-Mrs. Grant has lost five family members in the last year.  Several children have been left orphans.  One of them is a ten year old boy named, Kenneth, will be moving in wih her.  Mrs. Grant came to Chandler several months ago suffering from rheumatism and barely could walk, and now she can walk without use of a cane.  (Chandler Arizonan 3/14/1913)

-Mrs. Grant had just finished a kimona on Friday, and had just put it on when she lighted the gas stove.  A gust of wind blew it into the fire.  She seized the material with her hands and tore it off,  but not before badly burning her arms.  One arm is quite lacerated.  (Chandler Arizonan 5/30/1913)
