McCoy, Barney
Employed as a carpenter in Chandler.
Mr. McCoy was in Phoenix visiting friends and getting his pay. While trying to catch his train back to Chandler, he slipped his money in his shirt pocket. Once on the train, he realized he had lost his money, and jumped back off the moving train hoping to find his forty dollars in ten dollar bills. He was unable to find it.
A few days later, he was told a boy had reported finding twenty-one dollars, but Mr. McCoy said that was impossible. He took Deputy Sheriff Peterson out to see the boy and questioned him. Finally the story came out, and Mr. McCoy got the last of his money back. (Reposted from the Phoenix Gazette in the Chandler Arizonan 7/11/1913)
