Bronze Boxer at Rest
The Bronze Boxer at Rest, also known as the Terme Boxer. or the Boxer of the Quirinal is a Hellenistic Greek sculpture of a sitting nude boxer at rest. The boxer is still wearing his himantes, straps of ox hide wrapped around the hands of boxers which did not cover the fingers, functioning as early 'boxing gloves' for ancient Greek boxers. This statue was excavated in Rome in 1885, and is now in the collection of the National Museum of Rome.
