The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, second edition printed in 1940. Told through the perspective of the Joad Family, Steinbeck’s 1939 novel opened the nation’s eyes to the plight of farmers in the Dust Bowl and their search for a better life. A subsequent feature film adaptation in 1940 starred Henry Fonda and Jane Darwell. Chandler Museum Library Collection.
