Oakes, Kaela

Kaela Oakes was a standout basketball player at Basha High School (2005-09) and Idaho State University (2009-13).  The speedy point guard put up solid numbers in her three year career as a starter at Basha High.  She twice earned honorable mention All-State honors, was twice named to the All-Region team, and was one of the best defenders in the region, twice earning First-Team All-Region Defense honors.  She was also a star on the track.  In 2007, she finished second in the state in the 200m, and the following season finished fifth in the state in the 100m.  She set Basha school records in the 100m (12.20 seconds) and the 200m (25.56 seconds).

Kaela chose to play college basketball at Idaho State.  She had an immediate impact, averaging nearly 4 points a game, with nearly 2 rebounds and 2 assists per game as a freshman.  She earned All-Big Sky Conference academic honors that year.  She had a breakout years as a sophomore, averaging more than 12 points per game and nearly doubling her rebounding and assist averages.  That year she was named All-Big Sky Honorable Mention and earned a spot on the All-District team.  Her junior year was solid, and she made her way onto the All-Big Sky First Team and played her way onto the Big Sky All-Tournament team.  As a senior she led Idaho State to the NCAA Tournament, where the team put up a good fight before being knocked out in the first round.
