Ray, M. Wardlow
One of Chandler’s first three sport stars, Ward participated in football, basketball, and track. He was an All-State player in basketball. Ward still holds one of the longest interception returns (79 yards) in the football record books. Ward graduated from high school in 1929 and raised a family of athletes (son Mario Ray was inducted into the Chandler Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and son Lynn Ray was inducted in 2012). Ward himself was inducted into the Chandler Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
He appears in the 1930 Chandler City Directory as living at 136 S. California. Living at the same address were Maria Ray and Nellie Ray.
The 1931 and 1932 directories said he was a laborer, living at 114 S. California. Maria and Nellie also lived there.
The 1932 directory showed Maria living there.
