23. Popular Store Building
The left half of Brunchie’s was originally the location of the Serrano Brothers dry goods store, known as the “Popular Store.” The Popular Store was a great place to buy clothes. In 1949, a pair of Levi’s cost just $3.45. Luis and Albert Serrano were prominent Hispanic business owners who left Mexico in 1919 and came to Chandler in 1920. The Serrano family is best known around the Valley today for their Mexican Restaurants. The first, which the family opened in 1979, is just around the corner on South Arizona Avenue.
