First Christian Church

In 1921, the church was formed as The First Church of Christ, but its members didn’t have a permanent place to meet in tiny Chandler. Services were held sporadically when a pastor from Phoenix could make the long trip.

By 1925,the church had a white, wooden building on East Cleveland Street - at a time when a street address was not a necessity in small-town Chandler. This site was near the current site of Guedo’s Taco Shop, 71 E. Chandler Blvd.

A few years later, the growing congregation sold the building, moved it off the property and built a larger brick building there. That building has been torn down.

In the 1960’s, the growing church sold the Cleveland Street property, moved to West Galveston Street and changed its name to Chandler First Christian Church. The church was finished and dedicated in 1964, and the name change better defined the church’s mission.
