Arizona Motion Picture Cooking School

Arizona Motion Picture Cooking School

First conceived in 1937, this school’s goal was to provide sparkling entertainment and close-up cooking instruction. Because of the invention of the camera, the audience was able to view the demonstration course in the wide variety of household equipment in active use. Films produced in Hollywood such as “The Bride Wakes Up” and “Star In My Kitchen” were shown for free at the Rowena Theater. Women, girls, and men too, attended the spectacle once in the Spring and once in the Winter.

These events were intended to bring the community together, as well as provide information on how to make the perfect pie crust or whip a fluffy meringue. Those who attended were eligible to win prizes provided by Chandler Electric Company, Basha’s, Payne Bros, Pillsbury Flour Mills Company, and more.
