He is described in the 1916 Chandler City Directory as working in general merchandise. His wife is Josephine. The 1917 directory lists him as a grocer and in the 1918 directory, as a rancher. In the 1919 directory he appears as a farmer.

Mr. Derrick works at the Roscoe Store, and is busy shelving the new shipment of dry goods that came in.  (Chandler Arizonan 5/2/1913)
