Moch, Dontay

Dontay Moch (#50) celebrates a sack of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon during a game between the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 29, 2013.

Chandler native Dontay Moch attended Hamilton High School where he excelled on the football field as well as in the classroom. Dontay started off his junior season as a defensive back but found his niche rushing the passer by the end of the year, recording 11 QB sacks. He also excelled on the track, gaining the 5A State title back to back in 2005 and 2006 in the 200m sprint, and in 2006 in the 100m sprint. He also ran with the 4 x100 State Champion team.

Moch began playing with the University of Nevada Wolf Pack in 2007 as a linebacker, defensive end, and on special teams. In his first year he recorded 13 tackles, 3.5 sacks, forced one fumble, recovered one fumble, and broke up three passes. In 2008, Moch finished the season tied 12th in the nation in the number of quarterback sacks and 4th in the nation for tackles for loss. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) named him a Second-team All-WAC defensive lineman. In 2009 Moch was awarded First-team All-WAC honors and named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year, the first person at UNR to do so.  Moch started 13 games and finished with 61 tackles, including a WAC-leading 20 tackles for a loss, which set a new UNR single-season record. He also registered 6.5 sacks, forced two fumbles and broke up three passes. During his senior year in 2010, Moch set UNR records for sacks, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles. His record breaking abilities helped the Nevada Wolf Pack to No. 11 AP final ranking and a 13-1 record.

His senior year 63 tackles-for-loss count set WAC career records, and ranked Moch 6th highest in NCAA standings to that point. He graduated from UNR with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

During the 2011 NFL Combine, Moch ran a 4.44 second 40-yard dash, the top time for all linebackers and defensive ends, which broke and set the new combine record. The Cincinnati Bengals selected Moch early in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft as a Linebacker/Defensive End. He remained with the Bengals until September of 2013, when he joined the Arizona Cardinals as Linebacker.

Dontay was released from the Cardinals following the 2013 season.  He rejoined the Bengals in March 2014 on a one year contract.

Moch and his fiancé Sarah have one daughter, and are expecting a son in the next few months.

Moch was inducted into the Chandler Sports Hall of Fame on February 8, 2014.
