Retamoza, Violeta

Violeta Retamoza was a professional golfer who played on the Futures and LPGA Tours.  She was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Violeta attended Hamilton High School from 1998 to 2002.  During that time, she was a semifinalist at the 2000 Junior Girls National tournament.  As a senior, she helped the Hamilton High Girls Golf team win the 2001 State Championship.  She also won the individual 2001 State Championship.  For her efforts, she was named the 2001 Arizona Golfer of the Year.

Violeta attended the University of Tennessee, where she competed on the golf team.  Among her many honors in her first collegiate season was the SEC Freshman of the Year, All SEC Conference honors, and a spot on the NGCA All American 2nd Team.  As a sophomore she earned All SEC Conference honors.  She added to her trophy shelf as a junior, earning 1st Team All SEC and All American honors, was the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year, and was named the SEC Player of the Year.

She joined the LPGA Futures Tour in 2007, finishing in the Top 4 and earning an exemption to play on the 2008 LPGA Tour.  While expectations were high for Violeta, with comparisons to Mexican golf legend Lorena Ochoa, she suffered through a miserable season making only one cut.  She returned to the Futures Tour in 2009.
