Turner, R. M.

-Received a visit from one of their sons, Russell Turner, for several weeks before leaving for college near San Francisco, and another son, S.M., is expected to stay and get a job as assistant cashier at the Chandler Bank.  (Chandler Arizonan 1/17/1913)

-The Vice President and Cashier of the Bank of Chandler.  In it's first day, it had 50 deposits and over $8,000 in money.  He believes he is filling a need for a bank in Chandler.  In the banking business in Mexico and Texas.  He organized and sucessfully ran a bank in El Paso.  For health reasons he came to Chandler.  (Chandler Arizonan 2/7/1913)

-Mr. and Mrs. Turner, Switzler Turner, and Miss Lillian Fredericks went to Phoenix to see Prince of Pilsen, and brought back Jacob Proebstel, an understudy and cousin of Mrs. Turner.  (Chandler Arizonan 2/28/1913)

-Bought 40 acres from George C. Smith.  It faces Arizona Blvd, and is a half mile north of town, and directly opposite from W.J. Lembke.  They intend to build a home on the land, and beautify it up.  (Chandler Arizonan 4/25/1913)

-Backwater in a ditch nearly caused a flood last week in the rear of his home.  The water encroached at a rapid rate, but Joe Cashman was able to save the day and stop it.  Other homes effected were D.W. Coffman and Mr. Slankard.  (Chandler Arizonan 5/2/1913)

-Elected President of the Chamber of Commerce after being nominated by D.M. Arnold.  He then gave a short speech on working together to boost Chandler.  (Chandler Arizonan 5/9/1913)

-Was offered $200 an acre for a ten acre strip for residence purposes.  (Chandler Arizonan 5/9/1913)

-Has 40 acres about six miles from Chandler, even after being told the land couldn't grow anything.  He went ahead with the help of his brother-in-law, William H. Brandenburg has made it a success.  They made it a garden truck.  Five acres were put into potatoes, 3 acres into a variety of items.  Three more into onions, twelve are in alfalfa, and 5,000 tomato plants.  A variety of fruits and vegetables were set out, and a number of date palms were planted.  Two acress of other fruit plants were set out including: peach, Burbank grapes, blackberries, rasberries, and melons.

Top prices were secured for the date palms, and the tomatoes were sold for a one cent over market price.  Giant Piscal celery, head of lettuce, cabbage, and cauliflower brought in top prices also.  He sold most of it to the Mesa Market due to lack of interest in Chandler.

There was a number of rundown trees on the land that with water and cultivation are improving and growing again.  Mr. Turner says in a year the land will turn a handsome profit.  (Chandler Arizonan 5/16/1913)
