Woods, Mike

Mike Woods is originally from Rockford, Illinois.  He attended Boylan Central Catholic High School 1979 – 1983, where he played football and baseball. He played baseball at Rock Valley Community College between 1984 to 1985. Between 1987 and 1995 he coached 9th grade baseball at Chandler Jr. High and Anderson Jr. High. He started the Hamilton baseball program in 1998-99. His first year began with a season record of 5-24 and his 2014 season record was 30 - 3.  

Besides leading the Hamilton baseball teams to four State Championships and three times as State runners-up, Coach Woods also guided Hamilton's teams to honors such as State Semi-finalists in 2002, and 2006; and as Fiesta Region Champions  2001- 2006, and 2010.

Under Coach Woods' guidance, Hamilton has had 17 players drafted or signed by Major League Baseball teams, 50 players who went on to play college baseball (23 players at D-1 colleges), and 2 players who made it to the World Series. Woods has received many honors for his outstanding coaching. These include multiple Region COY awards; AZ Republic Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003; East Valley Tribune Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003; and AZBCA 5A Coach of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2011. In addition in 2009 he was named ABCA Regional Coach of the Year Div II; and NHSACA National Coach of the Year Finalist in 2010.
