Silk Stocking Neighborhood

The Silk Stocking neighborhood is northeast of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard. It is comprised of Washington and Colorado Streets between Chandler Boulevard and Erie Street. It was so named because the zoning guidelines for the town of Chandler dictated that houses built in the neighborhood must cost at least $3,500. It was said around town that if a man could afford to build a house there he could afford to buy his wife silk stockings.
