Fire Truck, 1936

Members of the town council pose with Chandler’s first fire truck

The Chandler Fire Department was officially organized as a volunteer outfit in 1937. One of the first things purchased for the new department was a 1936 Dodge pumper truck. Posing with the pumper from left are Mayor J. W. Sinks, Councilmen Bert Hill, Mark Stowe and J. Lee Loveless. The 1936 Dodge pumper is still used by the Chandler Fire Department for parades and ceremonies today.

The Chandler Fire Department grew to have a paid chief and two paid captains in 1953. By 1970, the entire department was staffed by paid personnel. The department today has grown to over 200 firefighters with 10 fire stations throughout the city.Â
