She appears in the 1918, 1919 and 1921 Chandler (Arizona) City Directories  as the wife of Pleasant M. James. 

Gertrude James is also listed in the 1940 Chandler Resident Directory as a teacher at Chandler Schools. She lived on the west side of north Arizona beyond Buffalo.
