He appears in the 1925 Chandler City Directory as a barber, living with R. E. Slack.

The 1926 directory said he was a barber, living on north Dakota. Dale R. Muse lived with him.

In the 1929, 1930, 1931  and 1932 directories, Rutherford and his wife Leona were listed as living at 201 N. Dakota. He was working as a barber at 83 W. Boston.
