Johnson, Lerina

Lerina Johnson has been a Physical Education teacher at Perry High School since 2007. She also started the Girls Varsity/JV Badminton program at Perry and serves as the team’s coach. In 2017, the Perry Girls Badminton team won the Division I state title in Arizona, a perfect ending to an undefeated season. The team continued to win back-to-back Division I state titles through the 2022-2023 season. In 2019, Johnson was one of eight finalists from the U.S. for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year. In 2020, Johnson was named All-Arizona girls badminton team Coach of the Year.

Johnson grew up in South Phoenix, went to West High School, and graduated with her BAE from Arizona State University.  She continued her education and earned her Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University. Johnson taught in the Mesa School District (JR. High/High School), before joining the Chandler School District at Basha High School in 2005.
