Once it became clear that Wright and Chandler would not be able to procure the money needed to build the San Marcos in the Desert, they planned for a smaller hotel.  The new hotel plan featured many of the same design aspects of the larger hotel but was to be located in the foothills of the San Tan Mountains.  Called the Little San Marcos in the Desert, this project, too, never came to fruition.
