Dr. Barackman is the brother-in-law of Mrs. Roy W. Davidson, wife of a prominent Phoenix contractor. When Dr. Barackman decided to move to the coast from Chicago for health reasons, his wife and himself stopped in Phoenix to visit Mrs. Davidson. They decided to stay here, but moved to Chandler to be out of the city in October of 1911.
Dr. Barackman graduated in 1904 from the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, which is considered one of the best in the country. His father was a prominent Chicago capitalist.Â
He practiced dentistry until 1911, where he had made a success. After the decision to move to Chandler, he lived for three weeks on the ranch of Leonard George camping out. He then moved to section 4, which was still deser, and 1.75 miles from Chandler which had nothing on the townsite then, he says.
He decided he wanted a fruit farm, and purchased some land. Twelve chickens of the fancy stock were brought with him from Chicago. They are of the finest Columbian Wyandotes that can be purchased in the east. There are now 500 of them, and all from the original twelve.Â
He is a masonic worker like his brother-in-law, and wants to see the progress of the Masonry in the Valley. He was very active in school with the group. He won the title of grand master of the Xi Psi Phi fraternity, one of the strongest dental fraternities in the U.S.
His brother, Guy B. Barackman, is a civil engineer, and works as an assistant civil engineer for the Delaware and Lackawana Railroad. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign. He is also a mason. There are several masons between the two families.
He is considered intelligent, pleasing personality, and conscientious. He is able to meet people of all backgrounds, and meet them on equal footing, and put them at ease. (Chandler Arizonan 8/22/1913)
