09. Andersen Building

The next structure down is the Andersen Building, where the florist shop is today.  In 1928, this became home to Sink’s Pool Hall, one of the most popular hangouts in early Chandler for men of all walks of life, particularly as a distraction from the hardships of the Great Depression.  Town Attorney Arthur Price spent so much time playing dominoes at Sink’s that he had his mail forwarded here.  A photo of Sink’s may be found in your guidebook.  In the 40s, 50s, and 60s it held John Openshaw’s Electric Company, your one-stop shop for all electrical needs.  Here, you were likely to buy your first Frigidaire refrigerator.  Next the building housed Lonnie’s Cocktails from the 60s through the 80s, in keeping with the building’s historic reputation as a place to relax.
