He appears in the 1918 Chandler (Arizona) City Directory as manager of Central Blacksmith Shop. His wife was Velma.

They do not appear in the 1919 directory and reappear in the 1920 directory, which said he was a carpenter and they lived on California Street.

Herb E. Means also appears in the 1940 Chandler Resident Directory as an owner of Air Port Tavern (directory also says Air Port Service.)  He and his wife Ann lived on RD 1 on the east side of Highway 87. Their phone number was 85J3.
